Water service replacement, meter to house
The pipe from the meter to the house. When it is old galvanised, it rusts from the inside and takes your pressure and your water quality with it.

If your pressure is poor at every tap, the water runs rusty after the house has sat empty, or you have had the same run repaired more than once, the problem is usually the water service rather than the fittings.
Galvanised pipe corrodes from the inside. The bore closes up over decades until what reaches the house is a fraction of what the meter is delivering, and by the time it starts leaking the rest of the run is generally in the same state.
What we handle
- Replacing old galvanised and poly water services in copper or PEX
- Poor pressure diagnosed at the meter before anything is replaced
- Discoloured or rusty water traced to its source
- Repeat leaks on the same run
- The line located and marked before any excavation
- Meter to house, under driveways and established gardens
- Isolation valves and stop taps replaced while the water is off
- Backfill and reinstatement so the yard goes back the way it was
Why it's different up here
Mountain blocks make this job harder than the same job on the flat. The run is often long, it frequently crosses a driveway or a garden that somebody has spent thirty years on, and sandstone sits close to the surface in a lot of streets. That is the argument for locating the line properly first rather than opening a trench and hoping. Where a full open trench would wreck something worth keeping, there are usually ways to get the new line in with far less digging.
The things people ask
How do I know if my water service is the problem?
Two signs. Pressure that is poor at every outlet rather than one, and water that runs discoloured after the house has been unused for a while. We test at the meter and at the house so you know whether you are buying a new service or a new tap.
Do you have to dig up the whole yard?
Not always. The line gets located first so the dig follows the pipe instead of searching for it, and in a lot of cases the new run can go a shorter or easier way than the old one. We will show you the route before anyone starts.
Whose responsibility is the pipe from the meter?
From the meter to the house is generally the owner's, and the authority looks after their side of it. If it turns out the fault is on their side we will tell you that rather than quoting you for it.
