Plenty of properties in and around the mountains are not connected to a sewer and never will be. Those blocks treat and dispose of their own wastewater, and when it stops working there is nowhere for it to go.
We work on the plumbing side of on-site systems: what runs into the tank, what happens between the tank and the disposal area, and the drainage that carries it.

Why it's different up here
On-site systems are unforgiving on mountain blocks. A steep site limits where a disposal area can go, sandstone close to the surface limits how well it soaks away, and high rainfall means the ground is often already wet when the system needs to shed water. A soggy patch downhill of the trenches is usually the first sign, and it is worth acting on then rather than when it reaches the house.
The things people ask
How do I know my septic system is failing?
Wet ground or a smell over the disposal area, gurgling fixtures, slow drains across the whole house, or a tank that needs pumping out far more often than it used to. Any of those is worth a look before it becomes a health issue.
Do I need council approval?
For a new or replacement on-site system, generally yes, and the council sets what the site has to be able to do. We will tell you what that is likely to involve before you spend money on a design that the block will not support.
Can you work on an aerated system?
Yes, on the plumbing and drainage side of it. Some treatment units also carry a servicing agreement with the manufacturer for the mechanical and electrical side, and we will tell you when something falls under that rather than charging you to find out.
