In the Upper Mountains your gas heater is how you get through winter. Australian gas use runs close to six times higher in winter than summer, and up here the season is longer and harder than anywhere else within reach of Sydney.
We are gas specialists as well as plumbers. Licence 479856C carries Gasfitter and LP Gasfitter, so heaters, cooktops, gas hot water and BBQ points are all one trade to us. You are not coordinating two contractors or waiting on somebody else's schedule.

Gas leak detection
If you can smell gas, turn it off at the meter, open the windows, leave the light switches alone and get everyone outside before you ring us. When we get there we find it with a detector and a pressure test on the line rather than guessing, make the property safe, and repair what is leaking. A rotten-egg smell near an appliance, a hiss you can hear at the meter, a gas bill that has climbed for no reason, or an alarm that keeps going off are all the same phone call.
Why it's different up here
Book a heater service in February or March, not on the first cold snap. Every plumber on the mountain gets the same phone calls in the same fortnight, and a pilot that will not stay lit in May is often a service that was due in autumn. Holiday-let owners in particular should be servicing between guests, not after a complaint.

What do I do if I can smell gas?
Turn the gas off at the meter, open the windows and get everyone outside. Do not touch light switches, do not use the phone inside the house, and do not go looking for it with a flame. Ring us from outside. If anyone feels unwell, ring 000 first.
Is a gas plumber the same as a gas fitter?
Same trade, different word. Most people search for a gas plumber, and that is what we are, licensed for gasfitting, LP gasfitting, plumbing, drainage and roof plumbing under NSW licence 479856C. You can look it up yourself on the NSW online licence check.
How often should a gas heater be serviced?
Once a year, and every two years at the absolute outside. Beyond the running cost and the pilot dropping out, an unserviced flued heater is the one that develops a carbon monoxide problem. It is a cheap service compared to what it prevents.
Can you give me a compliance certificate?
Yes. Any gas work we do comes with the certificate of compliance NSW requires. You will need it for insurance, and your conveyancer or property manager will ask for it at sale or lease.
