A tank on a mountain block does two jobs. Most of the year it waters the garden and flushes the toilets. On a bad day in summer it is water on site when the mains are under pressure from everyone else.
The second job only works if the supply is set up for it. A tank with no dedicated outlet, no fitting a brigade can couple to, and a pump that needs mains power is not a firefighting supply, whatever is in it.

Why it's different up here
Static water supply is taken seriously up here for obvious reasons, and the fittings are the part people get wrong. A tank is only useful to a crew if there is an outlet they can connect to, sized and threaded to what they carry, and positioned where a truck can reach it. The other common miss is the pump: if it only runs on mains power, it is out of action in exactly the conditions you bought it for. Worth sorting in autumn rather than in a hot week in December.
The things people ask
Can my existing tank be used for firefighting?
Often, with the right outlet and fitting added. What decides it is whether a truck can get to it, whether there is a dedicated take-off that does not depend on your house pump, and whether the fittings match what the brigade carries. We can look at what you have got.
Do I need a pump, or will gravity do?
Gravity works for a garden tap on a sloping block and rarely for anything else. If you want tank water in the house, or usable pressure for firefighting, you want a pump, and for the fire case one that keeps working when the power does not.
Can tank water run the toilets and laundry?
Yes, and that is the setup that pays for itself, because those are steady year-round uses. It needs to be plumbed so tank and mains cannot cross-connect, with an automatic changeover so you never run dry.
